Nobody Wants You!

Hazzard 82: 70% [of black women are] single cause nobody want them hahaha

Although most of Black American loves Oprah and worships the ground she walks on, I'm a skeptic about her and her show. Not because she isn't a great business women and entrepreneur, but because of her personal ethics. There are many accounts online of Oprah being rude, disrespectful, or expecting special service simple because she's Oprah (it was rumored that Oprah boycotted a store because they would not shut down the store for her, even in the video I am going to discuss here, she's talking over her guests and not allowing them to voice their opinions effectively).

Anyway, I must give Kudos to Oprah for her segment on the reasoning behind the statistic that 70% of Black Women are single. She makes some good points in this segment, stating that the numbers not there for there to be an equal match of Black Men to Black Women and that all Black Women should keep their options open, especially if they want to get married. I totally agree with her on these two points. There simply aren't enough Black Men to go around. All women should keep their options open, Love is Love, no matter who it is between (but there is nothing like a positive, strong, level headed Black Man).

The video is not what I want to address here. I actually want to address one of the comments that a viewer made underneath the video. This man stated that majority of Black Women are single because nobody wants them. I couldn't help but smile a little when I read this.

Nobody wants Black Women? Did this miseducated, misguided, ignorant individual forget to read his history text books? Black Women had been desired since the dawn of time. Sexually, Black Women possess a power that no other race has. Slave owners, Black boyfriends, husbands, and side pieces were all captivated by it (although this captivation often led to forcible sexual relations). Lord knows what kind of Black Women this person has seen, but every Black Women that I have ever encountered possesses some kind of sexual power that renders all men of all races helpless. We just got it like that.

Apart from sex, Black Women are excellent care-givers. Throughout history we have been society's house keepers, wet nurses, and mid-wives. In the past, this was looked down upon, especially when it came to white women. They wanted to have a boat load of children, but leave these same children to their Black servants to nurse and raise. They could have easily done it themselves (although nursing and caring for children was considered un-lady like by White men....funny how they gave this "dirty jobs" to Black women to handle). So unwanted? These women were so wanted, and made life so easy, that they became a necessity. Black and White children alike were raised and delivered by Black Women well into the the twentieth century (Look up Granny Midwives).

Last thing, Black Women have become the forbidden fruit to most races, especially white men. Most men love the aura, the strength, the mystery of Black women, but these can also be intimidating factors to men outside of the race, especially those who like their women beneath them and not beside them. But there is something that just pulls men in. Not just the physical, not just the maternal capabilities, but something that cannot be found anywhere else, in any other race of women. And human beings always want what they can't have, always desire the forbidden and the mysterious. Nobody wants us?? Right....

And for all you Black Women who believe that you are not desired or wanted by any many of any color, remember this, a man that does not respect and admire Black Women is crazy. We were, and still are, society's strong point. We keep the show running, with or without a companion by our sides (that's right, you don't need a man to achieve Greatness). So keep on doing you Black Women. Whether you got a weave or your natural, heels, flats, bohemian or urban style. You are wanted, in every sense of the word. Wear it with pride, pick your mate wisely, and stay away from assholes that tell you that you're not wanted. They're probably society's rejects anyway.

"I am a feminist, and what that means to me is much the same as the meaning of the fact that I am Black: it means that I must undertake to love myself and to respect myself as though my very life depends upon self-love and self-respect." -- June Jordan
